Colleen Corzine Garrott, 96, of Anna, died at 3:00am Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Union County Nursing Home. Born Thelma Colleen Corzine on Oct. 8, 1916, she was one of 6 children of James Earl and Sarah Elnora Howell Corzine. She was born and raised in the Balcom Community. She attended Balcom School and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1934. After high school, she worked at the International Shoe Company in Anna until World War II. During the war, she joined forces with other American women to work in factories in St Louis and Indianapolis assembling airplane parts. She worked a short time in an ordinance plant in Carterville loading bomb shells. She left that job when she was sickened by the lead used in the shells. In June 1945 her childhood friend and high school sweetheart returned from overseas, where he had been a prisoner of war. Colleen married Oard Orrin Garrott on June 30, 1945. The Garrotts returned to Union County and Mr. Garrott taught high school agriculture at Cobden. In 1951, he was called back into the Air Force. During this time, Colleen "saw parts of the United States she had never dreamed of seeing as a child." A highlight of her life was living in Nancy, France and visiting Europe while her husband was stationed overseas. She volunteered in the Officers' Wives Club and used her Red Cross nurses training volunteering in base hospitals. In 1959 they returned to Anna and O.O. Garrott taught industrial arts at Anna Junior High. Colleen took part in community activities such as Junior Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Colleen has been a member of Big Creek Baptist Church since childhood. She taught Bible Class, Sunday School, VBS and served in the nursery for many years. Her loving family includes sister-in-law Iris Garrott Hight, 4 nieces and 5 nephews: Barbara Boyd Bauer, Jane Boyd Gimble, Collin Boyd, Kenneth L. Corzine, Jane Ellen Corzine Julien, James G. Corzine, Kevin Corzine, Patricia Colleen Corzine, Sandra McCrory Willis, and David Hight; 27 great nieces and nephews; 35 great great nieces and nephews; and 7 great great great nieces and nephews; as well as many friends, care givers and a loving community who affectionately called her Aunt Colleen. Colleen grieved the loss of her beloved husband O. Orrin Garrott in 1978, her mother and father, 2 brothers Kenneth and James Corzine; 3 sisters, Vivian Boyd and Betty Snyder, and baby Emma Jane Corzine; niece Floella Corzine Sykes; 1 great niece, and 1 great great niece. Visitation will be from 5-8 Monday, Sept. 9, and 10-11 Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. A celebration of Colleen's life will be at 11am Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Crain Funeral Home, Anna-Jonesboro. Rev. Arlena Corzine will officiate at the service and be assisted by Bro. Larry Miller and Mrs. Geri Manus. Interment will follow in Anna City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Union County Hospital Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship Fund, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Moneada E. Parker Karraker 1914-2014, A-J 1934 Class, Information furnished by A-J Classmate and Friends.

Moneada E. Karraker 99, of Anna died at 8:30AM, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Anna Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 31, 1914 in Anna, daughter of Arna and Emma Dunn Parker. Moneada married James C. Karraker on Dec. 31, 1936, he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1969. Moneada was a lifelong resident of Anna graduating from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1934. She was member of the First Baptist Church of Anna. She had many jobs throughout Union County including Anna Loan and Improvement Company, Anna State Bank and the Union County Sheriff's Office. During World War II, she was employed by the government at the Illinois Ordinance Plant at Marion. She then went to the CB&Q Railroad until the end of the war. Moneada decided to go to cosmetologist school and owned and operated the Anna Hotel and Beauty Salon. In January, 1957, she went to work 2 days before WRAJ radio station opened. Moneada was a bookkeeper, answered the phone and greeted all the visitors. She got her FCC 3rd class radio operator's license and had her own program "Moneada Calling" as well as "It's a Women's World." Moneada tried retirement for a while but then went back to work for her son James L. Karraker, Attorney, as a receptionist and bookkeeper for 20 years. She enjoyed tutoring at Platte County Vocational School in Missouri and the Pinellas Education Technical Center in Clearwater, FL. She also volunteered at the First Baptist Church in Anna. She was a precinct committee woman for The Union County Democrat Organization for many years. At the age of 67 Moneada took up art to go along with her other hobbies including crocheting, knitting, ceramics and writing. Moneada is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law James Larry and Lori Karraker, Anna; Wesley E. and Sandy Karraker, Cobden and one daughter and son-in-law Sandra K. and Clide Cassity, Palmetto, FL; 8 grandchildren; Jason Karraker (Beverly), Destin, FL; Julie Hand, Marion, IL, Erin Karraker, Chicago, IL; Robert Karraker, Anna; Jimmie Karraker, Anna; Kathy Karraer, Cobden; J.R. Maxam (Lisa), Charlotte, NC and Ryan Maxam (Olivia), Land-O-Lakes, FL; 3 step-grandchildren, Michael (Sherry) Gee, Caddo Mills, TX and Shaun Gee, Carbondale, Sarah (Quentin) Coonce, Tunnel Hill; 5 great-grandchildren. Danton Hand, Marion; Alex and Gretchen Maxam, Charlotte, NC; and Brittani and Matthew Maxam, Land-O-Lakes, FL; 1 step-great-grandchild, Connor Gee, Caddo Mills, TX; 1 brother-in-law Walter Menees, Anna; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son, William Clyde Karraker; 3 brothers, Arnold, Jewel and Gilman Parker, 4 sisters Arminta Johnson, Irene Lingle, Trula Evelyn (Dolly) Plott, and Velma Menees. Visitation for Moneada E. Karraker will be from 5PM to 8PM on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Crain Funeral Home Anna-Jonesboro and after 10AM until the service on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Crain Funeral Home Anna-Jonesboro with Pastor Tony Foeller officiating. Interment to follow at the Anna City Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Margaret May Schumacher Gill 1916-2005, A-J 1934 Class, Information furnished by A-J Classmate and Friends.

Margaret May Gill, 88, of Anna died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill. She was born May 28, 1916, in Cobden, Ill., daughter of Frank Joseph and Catherine May Ryan Schumacher. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna. She grew up in the Saratoga community and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1934. She worked as a salesclerk for several years at Famous-Barr in St. Louis. She and Robert K. Gill were married Aug. 6, 1945; he died Feb. 4, 1998. Survivors include four nephews, David and Doyle Gill and Mark and Kim Palmer; and two cousins, Sue Lence and Ed Rendleman. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sister and two brothers. Friend may call after 9 a.m. Monday at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Schaefer officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Cobden.

Sarah Frances "Sallie" Treece Bradley, 1917-2011, A-J 1934 Class, Information furnished by A-J Classmate and Friends.

Sarah Frances "Sallie" Bradley, 94 of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Anna, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, in Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Union County, the daughter of Harry and Monica Wiggins Treece. She married James Bradley on Aug. 6, 1941, in Jackson, Mo. Sallie is survived by her husband of 70 years, James Bradley of Cape Girardeau; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded by one brother, Tyrus Treece. Sallie was confirmed at Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna and was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glenn Ellyn. Sallie was passionate about her many hours of volunteer work at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Faith Lutheran Church. Sallie was a 1934 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. She worked as the secretary for Union County Farm Bureau for a number of years. Sallie greatly enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and playing cards. She will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by everyone who knew her. Services for Mrs. Sarah Frances "Sallie" Bradley will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with her nephew, the Rev. Dr. Sam White, officiating. Interment will be in Casper Cemetery in Anna. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
