Mr. Raymond Arthur Boyd, age 89 of Jonesboro, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born October 20, 1923 in Jonesboro, the son of Robert L. and Hattie Edwards Boyd. He married Violet L. Wilson on January 5, 1945 in Anna. Raymond is survived by his wife, Violet L. Boyd of Anna; two daughters, Judith (Charles) Neal of Anna, Jennifer Rae Boyd (Jerry M.D.) Goddard of Anna; one son, Raymond Randall (Kelly) Boyd of Stonefort; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Jeannette) Neal, Robin (Heather) Neal, Nathan Neal, Kelle O'Malley, Matthew Arthur Goddard, Ashton Martin, Jonathon Martin, and Katrina Martin; four great grandchildren, Jordan and Connor O'Malley and Briley and Haven Martin; one sister, Jane Verble of Indianapolis; other relatives and many his many special friends, the coffee drinkers at McDonald's; Rick O'Malley special neighbors, Tim, Angie & Olivia Bowen, Bill Bowen, and Raymond's cat, Holly. Raymond was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in World War II. Raymond worked as a bridge foreman and carpenter and in later years he was an Insurance Agent for Golden Rule Insurance. Raymond was a member of the Southern Counties Auto Unlimited Car Club and the American Legion Hall. Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Arthur Boyd were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Bob Fear, Rev. Ed Falgout, and Rev. Brett Yates officiating. Interment was in the Casper Cemetery in Anna. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors team of Marion. Agnes Menees Pitts, 1924-2007, A-J 1942 Class, Secretary at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in the 1960s, Information furnished by A-J Classmate and Friends.

ANNA - Agnes Menees Pitts, 83, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, at her home in Anna. She was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Lillyville, the daughter of Edmond Carl and Minnie Elizabeth (Helmink) Menees. She married Thomas "Pete" Pitts on Feb. 4, 1948, in Cobden. "Pete" preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1987. Agnes was a 1942 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna. She was involved in the Ladies Sodality, served as trustee and on the church council and helped to produce a number of hand sewn quilts that were raffled at the fall festival. She was employed at the Goodyear tire store in Anna during and after World War II and then worked as a secretary in the guidance office at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in the 1960s. She is survived by three daughters, Alice Ann Vedder and husband, Hellmuth, of Austin, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Larson of Bloomington and Carolyn Sue Pitts and husband, Michael Pace M.D., of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Julie (Catharine) Clarenbach, Angela Vedder, Matthew Larson and wife, Ann, and Joshua and Nathan Larson; and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Thomas "Pete" Pitts. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna, with Monsignor Dennis Schaefer officiating.
Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Essie Mae Scivally Groner 1925 2011, A-J 1942 Class, Accountant Elgin State Hospital, Information furnished by A-J Classmate and Friends.

Essie Mae Groner, 86, of Monroe City, Mo., and formerly of Vienna, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City, Mo. She was born on March 31, 1925, in Anna, the daughter of William Emerson and Chloe Van Amburg Scivally. She married Albert Wilson Groner on March 31, 1946, in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1990. Survivors include a son, Albert (Anita) Groner Jr. of Monroe City; a brother, George Scivally of Anna; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Lynn Groner; stepchildren, Doris Jean Salb and Larry Bruce Groner; two sisters, Fannie Brummitt Miller and Faye Sponsler; and two brothers, William Scivally Jr. and Don Scivally. Mrs. Groner was an accountant who served with the Elgin State Hospital in Elgin. She was a graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in Anna. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe City, Mo, and was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal, Fellowship Baptist Church and First Baptist Church both of Vienna. A memorial visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Memorials can be made to the Bethel Baptist Association.
