LICK CREEK - Mr. Paul William Benefield, 55, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born June 22, 1954 in Murphysboro, the son of Clifford Leo and Minnie Lou Schiro Benefield. He married Tina Sue Gee on June 1, 1973 in Lick Creek; she survives. Paul is survived by his wife, Tina of Lick Creek; three children, Richard Paul Benefield, Stephen Michael (Tonia Renee) Benefield, and Lori Christina (Darrell) Bracken, all of Lick Creek; mother, Minnie Benefield of Anna; three sisters, Leah Glasco of Anna, Mary (Adam) Aleks of Mississauga, Canada, and Clara Trexler of Anna; five brothers, Jim (Patty) Benefield of Channahon, Tom (Lana) Benefield of Jonesboro, John Benefield of Anna, Bob Benefield of Jonesboro, and Stephen (Vonda) Benefield of Anna; five grandchildren, Alexandria Nicole Benefield, Allison Dawn Benefield, Wyatt Paul Bracken, Kyler Paige Bracken, Parker David Benefield; father-in-law, Harold Gee of Lick Creek; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Leo Benefield; brother, David Benefield; grandchildren, Trevor Dawson Benefield and Mikenzie Nicole Bracken; brother-in-law, Clarence Glasco; mother-in-law, Joanna M. Gee; and great-nephew, Nathan Joe Hendershott. Paul was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Anna. He was a mental health technician and served on numerous committees including the Human Rights Committee at Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center for many years. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2009, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Father Federico Higuera officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benefield family. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.

William L. "Bill" Brown, 51, of California, Mo., formerly of Anna, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at California Care Center. He was born June 20, 1954, in Anna, son of Oliver E. and Golda Howell Brown. He and Diane Gibbs were married Sept. 28, 1974, in Jonesboro, Illinois. Brown was a 1972 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School. He received a bachelor of music degree from Southwest Baptist University at Bolivar, Mo., in 1996, and received a master of music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1999. He worked at IKT Service Co. in Anna from 1973 to 1992. He was lighting and sound technician at Southwest Baptist University from 1992 to 1996, and was a school bus driver with Rains and Martin Bus Service of Bolivar from 1993 to 1996. Brown served churches in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas, in such capacities as organist, sound technician, instrumental director, minister of music, choral assistant, hand bell director, choir director and assistant choir director. Survivors include two sons, Ira Brown of Bolivar, Aaron Brown of Owenton, Ky.; two brothers, Patrick Brown of Jonesboro, Michael Brown of Fairfield, Ill.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Friends may call at Anna Heights Baptist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and noon to service time Saturday. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Greg Morrow, Verlee Eaker and A.W. Landis officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements.
